I worked in an adult male category B prison for most of my career so far (over 10 years). I delivered and managed offending behaviour programmes (group work and individual). I then worked on a unit delivering group therapy. During this time I worked with all offences and sentence types. I worked with people with neurodivergence, attachment and personality challenges, complex trauma, mental health challenges and addiction. I currently work as a qualified Specialist Forensic Psychologist in the youth justice service.
I have loved my career so far and I have learnt a lot. What I enjoy most is supporting individuals to see what they are capable of and to be able to support them to move on from their past, and see a future.
That's where coaching came in...
With my psychology expertise, I recognised that I can effectively support people to move on with their life. Therapy is fantastic, but it isn't for everyone, and it isn't always necessary. Many people out of prison want to move forward with their life rather than focusing just on the past. I noticed that people get out of prison, and whilst some people have supportive family and friends, this transition is often daunting and comes with many challenges after experiencing custody. I knew I could make a difference by supporting people to move on from their experience and make a success of this transition back into the community, where they can heal relationships and reach the future they deserve.
